Eggs aren't bad for your heart after all

For decades, doctors have been telling us that eggs increase our cholesterol levels

For decades, doctors have been telling us that eggs increase our cholesterol levels. But a major new study has this week confirmed that processed 'white' foods-and not eggs-are the real culprit.
Even eating one egg a day doesn't increase your risk of cardiovascular disease, say researchers from the University of Granada.
Although the humble egg has been blamed for heart disease and raised cholesterol levels, the problem is actually created by the amount of saturated and trans fats we eat, and these mainly come from red meat, and from processed foods such as breads, cakes and biscuits. Instead, eggs are an inexpensive source of protein, minerals, folates and B vitamins, say the researchers.
Their research focused on adolescents, but the findings apply equally to adults, too.
