New TB vaccine doesn't work

The new TB (tuberculosis) vaccine doesn't work

The new TB (tuberculosis) vaccine doesn't work. Vaccinated children are as likely to develop the disease as those who don't have the shot, a new study has discovered.
The vaccine, MVA85A, was the great new hope for TB protection, but the results of a phase II trial in South Africa could mean a major rethink.
Vaccinated children are as likely to develop TB during the two years following vaccination as non-vaccinated children, and more of the vaccinated children carry the TB infection afterwards, researchers have discovered.
The vaccine's ineffectiveness was discovered when the researchers vaccinated 1,399 children and compared their health to 1,395 others who weren't vaccinated. Over the two years the children were monitored, 2 per cent of the vaccinated group developed TB compared to 3 per cent in the non-vaccinated group, and 13 per cent were infected by the TB virus after vaccination compared to 12 per cent of the non-vaccinated children.
