Berries help protect women against heart attack

Women can dramatically reduce their risk of a heart attack by eating plenty of strawberries and blueberries

Women can dramatically reduce their risk of a heart attack by eating plenty of strawberries and blueberries.
Just three servings a week can reduce the risk by as much as one-third, say researchers. They think that other berries could have a similar positive effect.
Scientists at Harvard School of Public Health discovered the protective powers of berries when they analysed the health and diets of 93,600 women aged from 25 to 42. During the 18-year trial, 405 women suffered a heart attack, but those who ate the berries three times a week or more had a 32 per cent reduced risk compared to women who ate berries once a month or less. Even women who ate a healthy diet in other fruits and vegetables didn't reduce their risk.
