Hospital? It's as dangerous as Afghanistan

A stay in a UK hospital is as dangerous as being on active service in Afghanistan or Iraq - the hospital patient runs the same risk of dying as the soldier on a tour of duty, a new survey has discovered.
The risk of suffering a preventable medical injury while in hospital is greater than 1 in 1,000 - which is considered to be a 'dangerous' pursuit - and is similar to fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq, and smoking, says the Alliance for Natural Health (ANH).
Pharmaceutical drugs are another danger of medicine - twice as many people taking a prescription drug die from an adverse reaction as motorcyclists who lose their life in an accident.
The survey contrasts the dangers of medicine against vitamins and herbal supplements, which are being forced off the shelves by rigorous EU legislation.
A person is 293,006 times more likely to die from a preventable medical injury than from taking a vitamin or food supplement, while the risk of death from a pharmaceutical is 62,000 times greater than for taking vitamins or food supplements.
Overall, you're 797,940 times more likely to die from smoking than from taking a vitamin, and the risk of dying from a supplement is similar to being hit by lightning or killed on the London Underground.
Despite these minimal risks, it's the vitamins and herbs they want to ban and curb.
