Teeth care is extra important for older women

Women who are past the menopause need to take extra special care of their teeth

Women who are past the menopause need to take extra special care of their teeth. Bad teeth and gums can trigger bone weakening and osteoporosis, say researchers.
Even women who follow current guidelines - twice-yearly visits to the dentists, twice-daily brushing and flossing - still had a dangerous build-up of plaque, say researchers from the Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine.
Instead, postmenopausal women should visit the dentist four times a year, the research team recommends.
The recommendations were made after the researchers examined the health of 28 postmenopausal women, who had all followed dental care guidelines.
