'Abnormal' blood pressure is not a health threat, new research discovers
About the author:

Doctors have been getting it wrong for decades about high blood pressure (hypertension)

Doctors have been getting it wrong for decades about high blood pressure (hypertension). Although millions of people are taking expensive medications every day, new research has discovered there is nothing dangerous about an 'abnormal' blood pressure reading.
Doctors tell us that a 'normal' reading is anything below 120/80 (the first number relates to systolic pressure when the heart beats, the latter to diastolic, when the heart is at rest). Anything over that and you'll be prescribed a powerful drug, such as a beta-blocker or diuretic.
But a 20-year study of 13,792 people has discovered that those with 'abnormal' readings are not risking their health, despite the prevailing medical view. In fact, researchers from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey have revealed that diastolic and systolic pressures take on varying significance according to our age.
For instance, a reading of 140 systolic pressure - irrespective of the diastolic level - was dangerous in the over 50s, whereas a diastolic reading of anything above 100 - irrespective of the systolic reading - could be dangerous in those younger than 50.
