Road traffic noise may be a cause of high blood pressure, or hypertension.
Around half of the residents of Stockholm, Sweden who suffer from hypertension live within 100 metres of a busy road or highway, researchers have found.
By measuring the impact of road noise on them, and comparing that with people who live in quieter neighbourhoods, the scientists reckon that traffic noise could increase the risk of hypertension by nearly one-and-a-half times.
