German pediatrician Bernhard Schluter believes this could be an important reason for this mysterious occurrence.

He points to work on "human meterorobiology" where the weather has a physical effect on tissues, organs and the body as a whole. The theory has been supported by tests on rats, and the effects daylight and darkness had on them.
