Hrt causes gall stones

Hormone replacement therapy doubles your likelihood of developing gall stones, according to a study of 54,845 post menopausal women (Obstet Gynecol)

Hormone replacement therapy doubles your likelihood of developing gall stones, according to a study of 54,845 post menopausal women (Obstet Gynecol).

The women were followed for eight years, during which 1750 reported gall stones.

Current use of hormones was associated with a roughly doubled risk of gall stones, compared with those who had never used HRT. The higher the dosage and the longer period of use, the greater the risk.

Women who had used hormones in the past had a smaller increased risk, which diminished with time since last use.
