* For several low back disorders such as herniated disks, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis and degenerative disk disease, a study of 47 articles in the medical literature could find no advantage demonstrated for using spinal fusion over simple surgery without fusions (and indeed no truly scientific trials supporting the use of the procedure).
