Tanning Beds - The risks

The British Photodermatology Group recently studied the effects of tanning sun beds with ultraviolet A lights

The British Photodermatology Group recently studied the effects of tanning sun beds with ultraviolet A lights.

Their conclusions: anyone tanning for 30 minutes or more a week over several months a common exposure particularly during bad summers will increase the possibility of having skin fragility and blisterings; melanocytic lesions with potential to be malignant; an expected premature photoaging of the skin; and non-melanoma skin cancers. Although results are not conclusive, the group recommends that these sunbeds not be used and that children, those who burn easily, do not tan or tan poorly, have skin disorders or a history of skin cancer should never use them.
