Study finds cancer patients expect radical treatment

Cancer patients expect radical treatment, even if there's little chance for success

Cancer patients expect radical treatment, even if there's little chance for success. That's the conclusion of a study of l06 recently diagnosed cancer patients given questionnaires about their treatment. Most were willing to undergo intensive chemotherapy, even though they were told there was only a tiny chance of benefit far more so than doctors and nurses would have opted for such treatment.

"The patients with cancer appeared to regard a minute chance of possible benefits worthwhile, whatever the cost," said the British Medical Journal study.
