Being bitter about life can make you unhealthy

MagazineOctober 2011 (Vol. 22 Issue 7)Being bitter about life can make you unhealthy

Bitterness about others, and the world in general, can make you physically ill

Bitterness about others, and the world in general, can make you physically ill. A sense of failure-usually accompanied by feelings of anger and recrimination-often lies at the heart of a sense of bitterness, researchers at Concordia University in Montreal have found-and this can be toxic enough to cause physical illness.
Lead researcher Carsten Wrosch says: "When harboured for a long time, bitterness may forecast patterns of biological dysregulation and physical disease."
Forgiveness is the best way to break down the constant feeling of bitterness, he says (www.concordia.ca/now/what-we-do/research/20110809/can-blaming-others-make-people-sick.php).
