* I seem to have contracted what is known as 'polymyalgia rheumatica', a type of arthritis that affects the muscles, but not the bones or joints. It's causing the muscles in the back of my legs to ache badly when I walk or sit down for more than a few minutes. The condition also affects my shoulders and spreads to my right hand at night. Painkillers help, but the symptoms remain and have been with me for about four months now. I am reluctant to use steroids. Can anyone help? - DS, London

* Can anybody offer advice to prevent or cure mouth ulcers? I have suffered from them now and again since childhood, but they seem to be much more frequent now I'm in my mid-30s. No sooner do I get rid of a batch before the next lot appear. It would be great to know what''s causing them. - CK
