In response to your Viewpoint 'When cancer kills itself' (WDDTY vol 13 no 8), I refer you to Patrick Rattigan's Breast Cancer: Information for the Non-Mushroom (see especially p 4).

In the world's first controlled trial of breast cancer therapies, Drs Irwin Bross and Leslie Blumenson found that more than half the women in the study had tumours that were benign - without the ability to metastasise, the hallmark of a genuine cancer - a revelation that would have led to a flood of malpractice suits. The US National Cancer Institute responded by taking away their research funds and suppressing their findings by blocking any new publications.

She is a bit overweight and smokes 20 a day. The lump fluctuates slightly in size only. - H. Christina E. McFarlane, Newcastle-upon-Tyne
