Those clever people in medicine have come up with a new idea for a slimming pill - a drug that mimics the actions of insulin.

Researchers noticed that insulin regulates energy distribution and the body's use of energy. But one problem that arises if you want to use it as a slimming aid is that insulin - as an anabolic steroid - can make you fat.

So, they've developed an insulin lookalike drug that doesn't make you put on the weight. It's already been tested on rats and, apparently, they're not complaining.

The British Medical Journal wonders, breathlessly, if the new wonder drug will 'turn out to be as useful as another type of oral treatment for type 2 diabetes'.

Hhmmmm . . . (BMJ, 2002; 324: 374).
