Re WDDTY vol 11 no 11 (February 2001), ADHD is a 'designer' disease to suit modern convenience. First, the disease can be assigned to anyone you wish. The symptoms are so all embracing that, with a bit of wit, you could argue that every child in the world has it. Second, it solves many problems. Parents can deny poor caring skills, teachers can deny poor communication, doctors and psychiatrists can save themselves time and effort, and drug companies can make money. It is a beautiful disease for everyone, except the child. Christopher White, London
