I wonder if you can understand how those of use who have been treated for breast cancer feel when reading your recent headline: "Breast cancer: a preventable disease", particularly when, like me, the condition was diagnosed when in our 20s.

Thirty years ago I had never taken the Pill, mammograms had not been invented, I had never dyed my hair, only been a social drinker, never smoked, had only one partner my husband had not knowingly been exposed to chemicals, eaten very little meat, lots of fruit and vegetables, and generally led what may be termed a risk free or perhaps a boring lifestyle. My experience suggests that no one yet knows what it is that causes breast cancer. Ursula King, Norfolk.........
