As a pharmacist, I have some issues to raise in response to your Q&A on leg ulcers (WDDTY vol 9 no 2 ).Glyceryl trinitrate if used sublingually has an action lasting only about 15 minutes (there are no longer acting forms of the drug).

It does no harm, but is the most useful rapidly acting drug for relieving the immediate and frightening pain of an angina attack (for which it was prescribed in this case).

Hydrocolloid dressings, like Granuflex, were not mentioned. These have revolutionised the treatment of leg ulcers over the last decade. Alkaloids, such as ergotamine, are hardly ever prescribed today ergotamine is a fifth line drug used for migraines, and rarely at that. Tom Curry, pharmacist, Lancashire.........
