Calcium: link to depression?

You say that depression may reduce bone density in women (WDDTY vol 7, no 10).

This bizarre statement reminded me of the joke about the scientist conducting experiments with fleas who concluded that losing all its legs caused a flea to go deaf as it no longer responded to the command to "jump!".

Could it be that both depression and low bone density have a common cause?

My own experience suggests that depression is, indeed, a mere "physical" symptom. I suffered all my life until I took cod liver oil. I have not felt depressed since. Cod liver oil will improve calcium absorption. So there could be a link with bone density, the common factor being calcium. JF, Kingston........
