Further to your report "Young epileptics grow out of disease" (WDDTY, vol 8 no 1): a neighbour's son, aged 5, has had one or two bouts of epilepsy.
About six months' ago, he went into status epilepticus [repeated attacks with no recovery of consciousness in between] while on high doses of the drug vigabatrin.
On being taken to hospital, he was put on a high dosage of the newer drug lamotrigine, once the status had subsided. The lamotrigine brought him out in a rash all over his body, including his mouth, so that he had to be put on a drip.
The hospital then withdrew all tablets and he is now fit free. HW Ox-spring, S Yorks.......
