In response to Vol 5 No 1 concerning the drug remoxipride, I was diagnosed as a manic depressive some 10 years ago and the drug was prescribed as a prophylactic measure, after lithium was found to be too toxic.
I was one of the unfortunate eight victims who developed aplastic anemia and had to fight for my life. After being rushed to hospital I developed other complications such as tuberculosis and I remained in hospital for three months. The road was stormy, but my strong spirit kept me alive.
Luckily I responded to horse serum treatment.
Since this episode, I am now no longer allowed prophylactic drugs and take only haliperodol and procyclodine when "high". I also have a team of alternative therapists looking after me. Barbara James, Brighton......
