Your answer to the question about X-rays and pregnancy (vol 4 no 10) didn't give credit where credit is most certainly due to a remarkable lady called Dr Alice Stewart, a British epidemiologist, who has spent more than four decades researching the health effects of radiation.

In Oxford last year I heard her describe how she visited and personally inteviewed the parents of every child in the UK with a diagnosis of leukemia and found that the only common factor was a history of X-rays during pregnancy. Her findings were reported in New Scientist in a 1993 article entitled "Radiation: How Safe is Safe?" which I urge your readers to get hold of. Sally Reynolds, Abingdon......
