A reader's 9-year-old daughter is struggling with bed wetting from time to time, and the reader believes it may be in the family, having had the same problem as a child (and well into the teen years). Does anyone know of alternative remedies to combat this condition? One woman has a friend whose son suffered from bedwetting for years. The problem was finally traced to his teeth, which were so tight together that he did not get enough oxygen through them while he was asleep, causing him to fall into a sleep so deep he was virtually unconscious. The problem was cured after a couple of visits to the orthodontist. Sounds strange, but the results speak for themselves! Another mother was advised by the school nurse to cut out apple juice, which is apparently a diuretic, and allow only water to drink after about 5pm. Also, of course, plenty of water during the day to flush out the bladder, accustom it to fullness, and reduce irritation. Yet another says her son never achieved night-time dryness until he reached adolescence (he was born prematurely at 26 weeks). She tried everything - and more - to no avail. One wise doctor said "ignore it - he'll grow out of it at adolescence," and he was right. It cleared up almost overnight after the onset of puberty. This may reassure you if nothing else works for your daughter. You may also want to try New Era tissue salts, either combination B or individual salts. A good health shop should have a book giving details of these. Finally, an EFT practitioner (Emotional Freedom Technique - a newish 'energy therapy', also called 'tapping' or 'acupuncture without the needles') has successfully treated this condition. Children seem to respond well to EFT and seem very enthusiastic about learning to tap for themselves.
