Walk an hour a day to live a long and healthy life

Walk an hour every day and you’ll ward off most health problems and you’ll live longer, a new study has confirmed.

Although many studies before had emphasised the importance of exercise, a new study from the Hebrew University Medical Centre shows that it doesn’t take much in order to live longer and healthier.

Even walking just an hour every day was enough to increase your chances of a long life.  The study found that people who remained active were 17 per cent more likely to be alive at the ripe old age of 88 compared with those who led a sedentary life.  Overall, the tipping point seems to be doing four hours of physical activity a week, or jogging or swimming twice a week, or walking every day.

In all, the study looked at the lives of 1,861 people who had been born in 1920 or 1921, and compared their lifestyle with health and longevity.
