Vitamin D and Osteoporosis

I am writing to see if you can offer further advice about vitamin D and osteoporosis (WDDTY vol 6 no 7). As vitamin D is said to be a hormone, does the idea of using a supplement conflict with your tendency to oppose hormone treatments? I am told that vitamin D is the most toxic of all supplements, and have also been told that it is safe to take up to 500 units a day without running into toxicity problems. Because it is fat soluble, our bodies cannot eliminate any surplus. Andrew Wilson, London......
