The politics of sunlight
Dear WDDTY:
Your article on the "Politics of Sun light" (vol 5 no 12) was excellent. It appears that there is no firm evidence to link malignant melanoma with exposure to UVs. It seems reasonable to consider that gradual exposure to sunlight elicits a natural protection to UV, as a sun tan, but what, one wonders, happens to the energy in sunlight on contact with sunscreens? After all, it is not reflected and the tanning process does not immediately begin. In this context it is interesting to note that the incidence of melanoma has increased not only in relation to exposure to the sun, but also to UV-absorbing sunscreens.
