Swimming helps children with asthma

Swimming can help children with asthma to improve their symptoms, a new study has discovered.

Children with asthma who swam regularly for six weeks witnessed an improvement in their symptoms, including the severity of the attacks, mouth breathing, snoring, and chest problems.

Researchers from Taipei Medical University made the discovery after working with a group of asthmatic children aged between seven and 12.  Study leader Wang Jeng-Shing said: “Unlike other sports, swimming is unlikely to provoke asthma attacks.  In addition to improving asthma, swimming promotes normal physical and psychological development, such as increasing lung volume, developing good breathing techniques and improving general fitness.”
