Soft drinks - One a day is enough to cause diabetes

How many cans of sugar-sweetened drinks such as colas could you safely drink before increasing your risk of type 2 diabetes? Answer: none.
Researchers have discovered that people who drink even just one can a day almost double their risk compared with those who touch the stuff less than once a month. However, it's a habit that has to be kept up for several years before it starts having an effect on your health.
If this hardly sounds like news, it's something that has yet to reach the shores of the United States where consumption of soft drinks increased by 61 per cent in the 20 years to 1997. Cases of type 2 diabetes have grown in similar style, and it now affects 17 million Americans.
