Smoke gets in your stomach
Regarding the news story that barbecued meat is not carcinogenic (WDDTY, vol 10, no 1): somewhere I read that rats fed daily with smoked food for 20 days continuously developed cancer of the stomach. Also I remember reading that countries where red meat is consumed in large amounts, such as Canada and Brazil, have the world's largest incidence of bowel cancer. Let us not forget that chicken legs can be regarded as red meat.
The conclusion must be, do not eat smoked food more than once a week. When you do, eat barbecued meat, fish or even vegetables and then avoid other smoked food during the same week. Dr A Philippou, London.....
