Proven health claims to be outlawed throughout Europe

We all know that prunes keep us ‘regular’, and it’s been scientifically established that glucosamine is good for joint pain and probiotics help with gut health – yet it will soon be illegal for manufacturers in Europe to say so.
The European Parliament will soon outlaw these claims, and around 2500 others.  Once it becomes law next April, the new directive will prevent manufacturers of food and vitamin supplements from making health claims that everyone knows are true and have been supported by scientific studies.
The Alliance for Natural Health (ANH), the consumer action group fighting EU restrictions on alternative and nutritional health products, wants everyone to alert their local MEP (Member of the European Parliament) about the health claims legislation, and to vote against it.
The next phase of the possible ban happens on February 9th when MEPs get the chance to object to the existing health claims list, which currently includes just 222 claims that relate to 70 foods and food ingredients.  Once ratified, the list is then voted on by the European Parliament in April before passing into law.
