No one safe from psyllium?

No one safe from psyllium? The Journal of the American Medical Association reported a case of a woman who developed anaphylactic symptoms (allergic shock) after eating a cereal containing psyllium.

Psyllium, more properly known as psyllium hydrophilic mucilloid, a bulk forming substance which has a laxative effect, has been added to cereals and used by some to aid in colon cleansing. JAMA jumped on the single case to warn that health care workers and pharmaceutical workers handling psyllium may be at risk. One only wishes they would view the first drug reactions to a vaccine or new arthritic drug with the same cautionary zeal.
