Nephrotic syndrome

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what can be done to help a 13-month-old child seriously ill with nephrotic syndrome – a disorder where the kidneys have been damaged, causing them to leak protein from the blood into the urine?  A reader is concerned about this child who is presently in hospital and retaining large quantities of fluid.

Catherine suffers from the same condition and was treated in hospital with intravenous albumen (a protein-rich blood product) and diuretics.  She does not mention any alternative treatments, but other readers have come up with some ideas that may be worth investigating.

Sheila reckons homeopathy would be safe and effective for this child, but be sure to see a qualified homeopath, she says.

Michael, on the other hand, suggests a Chinese herbal medicine formula called Liu Wei Di Huang Wan.  But, again, contact a qualified practitioner before embarking on this treatment.
