Myopia: Why you should never lift heavy weights if you're near-sighted

If you’re near-sighted (myopic), don’t start lifting very heavy weights – and here’s why.

People with myopia are more likely to suffer retinal detachment, and that risk increases even further if they start lifting heavy objects.

Researchers discovered that people with myopia who also lifted heavy objects quadrupled their risk of suffering a detached retina.  They also found that myopics who were also overweight were another at-risk group.
