Just 18 per cent of Americans with a mental problem are ever treated, a new study has discovered. And less than half of those with even a severe mental condition – such as schizophrenia – ever get to see a doctor.
This pattern is repeated throughout the European countries, with France and Germany providing the most care for the mentally-ill patient.
The neglect of mental problems is even worse in countries such as Nigeria and China, where less than 1 per cent of patients with severe mental illness are ever treated.
