Losing weight: How much exercise to do if you want to shed the pounds, and keep them off

Want to lose weight by exercising?  Well, this is how much you need to do each week to start shedding those excess pounds.

Researchers have worked out that you need to perform an additional 4.5 hours of activity every week – or 39 minutes each day – if you are to lose around 10 per cent of body weight.

They tested the theory on 201 overweight women who carried out a range of different exercise regimes.  After six months, there was very little difference between the groups, but researchers discovered that the women who lost 10 per cent of their weight – and who kept it off two years later – were those who increased their activity by 4.5 hours every week.
