Homeopathic treatment for the menopause

Dear WDDTY

In the first part of your special report into HRT (vol 4 no 9), you are on the one hand debunking the idea that the menopause is a disease and on the next page you are promoting the use of a supposedly safe and natural alternative to synthetic hormone replacement. The homeopathic approach to health attempts to assist by allowing the body's self healing, self regulating mechanisms to operate at their optimum level. We certainly do not consider the menopause to be a condition that requires supplementation with hormones, natural or otherwise. With homeopathic treatment the menopause can be a safe, gentle passage. Harald Gaier responds:

It's true that homeopathy, naturopathy or even letting nature take its course can work in the conditions refered to. But so will a host of other therapies. My brief is not to be an advocate of any one philosophy of healing, but to be a journalist. I will continue to report on all therapies that have scientific evidence of safety and effectiveness (see Viewpoint, p 6).
