Heart disease: Is white wine as good for us as red?
We’ve all been told that a little red wine is good for us, and especially for our heart. But can the same be said for white wine?
Red wine – unlike its white counterpart – contains resveratrol, which scientists believe was the magic ingredient that helps keep our heart healthy. Resveratrol is found in grape skin, which is discarded in the making of white wine.
But a new study has found that white wine is just as good for the heart, and that one or two glasses a day will provide a protective effect.
Researchers from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine found that white wine offered the same protective benefits when it was fed to a group of rats. Those given white wine suffered less heart damage than those fed only water or grain alcohol.
So there’s something about all wine that is good for our heart – whether you drink red or white.
