Gum disease is major tell-tale sign of serious health problems

Gum disease is one of the biggest tell-tale signs of a more serious health problem, as a WDDTY special report has revealed. A new study has discovered that 90 per cent of people with gum disease are at risk of developing diabetes, and may already have diabetes but don’t know it. Researchers from New York University believe that dental surgeries could become a first-line screening system for people who have gum disease, especially if they also have other risk factors for diabetes, such as being overweight or high blood pressure. The WDDTY Special Report, Root Causes (Vol. 19, no. 4), found that gum disease such as gingivitis was a signal of major health problems, such as cancer, heart problems, and mental decline.
