Gout: It could be more to do with soft drinks than high living

Gout has always been associated with high living, an unfortunate consequence of too much rich food and drink.  But researchers now believe it could be more to do with sugar-sweetened soft drink and fructose.

In a study of 43,393 men, researchers discovered that those who were drinking two or more glasses a day of the drink were nearly twice as likely to suffer from gout.

It’s believed the fructose is responsible for a rise in the body’s serum uric acid levels, which causes gout.
