Fibroids are not a chinese medical diagnosis
Dear WDDTY:
Re the July 1995 (vol 6 no 5) Alternatives column on fibroids, "fibroids" are a conventional medical diagnosis, and not a Chinese medical one. To suggest that a specific Chinese herbal formula can be used by a biomedical disease category is to ignore the fact that each woman's "fibroids" would have a different Chinese diagnosis.
Keishi-bukuryo-gan (KG), a brand name and not a classical formula designation, is a Japanese, and not a Chinese, formula. As for Kuei-chih-fu-ling-wan, a Chinese formula, no less than three of the five ingredients listed are incorrect, and by using incomplete Latin rather than the Chinese Pin Yin names it may be unclear to your readers that the herbs used for this formula should be of South-East Asian origin; the European species will not work similarly.
