Breastfeeding: safe for mum, dangerous for baby
While recommending breastfeeding as a way to minimise breast cancer risk, the amount of chemicals nursing mothers transmit to their child is higher than what they will absorb in their lifetime. This may impair the infant's overall growth and immunity. Women should perhaps consider other options to reduce pollutants from their body. Lauren Amblard, London.........WDDTY replies: Dr Michel Odent's conclusion is that the benefits of breastfeeding still outweigh the potential harm to the baby of environmental pollutants released in breast milk.
