Banned powerlines in schools and council housing in Solihull

Well done for the article on power lines causing leukemia. There is also concern about microwave telephone masts and transmitters (satellite dishes). Solihull Council in the West Midlands has banned them in schools and within 100 metres of council housing. name withheld on request.

Thank you for sending on the articles which appeared in the Express and Star on 5 December 1992, quoting Midland environmentalist Dr Mark Payne. He claims permitted microwave levels in Britain (10 milliwatts per square metre) are 1000 times higher than those in Russia. Dr Payne also claims to have found a cluster of leukemia cases close to a TV broadcasting mast at Sutton Coldfield. In theory, he says microwaves pose a even higher risk than EMFs although the biggest problem is that nobody knows. Most transmission could more safely be sent by cable or fibre-optics, he says.
