Dear WDDTY

Harald Gaier's column (vol 4 no 4) on alternative treatments for asthma might lead readers to think they can buy Ephedra plant preparations in shops. But they can't! The Retail Sale or Supply of Herbal Remedies Order 1977 confines supply to herbal practitioners only.

We never recommend that patients self medicate, whether with herbal products, drugs or vitamins. WDDTY always recommends that people take anything only after consulting a qualified practitioner.
