Alzheimers disease
While the drugs industry continues to fire blanks in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease, there’s apparently a natural resource that does wonders for mental sharpness and cognitive functioning—sunshine.
Older people who have high levels of vitamin D—whether derived from sun exposure or supplements—have proved to do far better in mental tests than those with lower levels.
The importance of vitamin D in performing mental tasks has already been shown in several trials, and these earlier findings have now been confirmed in a new study involving 80 patients (Arch Biochem Biophys, 2007; e-pub 8 January).
