Water fluoridation will increase thyroid problemsI read with great interest and concern Doris Jones’ excellent article concerning fluoridation (WDDTY vol 14 no 4), but she may not have had the space to include the effect of fluorides on thyroid function. This can affect all consumers of fluoridated water, presenting a frightful prospect added to all the other damaging effects caused by silicofluorides (which are scheduled as part 2 poisons under the Poisons Act of 1972).
Fluorides are cumulative poisons, and their lethal effect will build up from the total intake of other fluoride-containing compounds (most commonly found in dental products, toothpaste and tea). Together with fluorides in our water, the accumulation will be significant. Cooking in fluoridated water and bathing in it can only worsen this situation.
The result will be an ever-increasing level of hypothyroidism [underactive thyroid] in this country, which has already been on an upward trend for the last three decades. - Dr Barry Durrant-Peatfield, Kent
