Nsaids: wonder drugs?

Dosing yourself up with aspirin and other non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs is good for you, researchers from Nottingham would have us believe.

They looked at 147 patients with colorectal adenomas malign tumours and matched them with 153 controls, matched for age and sex, without the condition. Their conclusion? That those with the tumours "reported taking less aspirin and non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs than the negative controls". They add that the longer the drugs are taken, the better it is.

So, if you want to avoid the risk of developing colorectal adenomas, and don't mind risking any of the well documented side effects associated with NSAIDs bleeding and ulceration of the stomach, headache, ankle swelling, dizziness, tinnitus and hypersensitive reactions such as asthma and skin rashes start popping those pills. BMJ, 31 July 1993.
