A copy of your article "Choking on Medicine" (vol 4 nos 6 and 8) has recently been passed to me. A number of studies have concluded that the major preventable cause of asthma death is under treatment and in particular under treatment with steroids. Dr Evan B Dreyer of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in the New England Journal of Medicine (9 Dec 1993) noted inhaled steroids are as capable of causing glaucoma and cataracts as the oral variety a side effect demonstrating that inhaled steroids aren't as safe as supposed.
