Amniocentesis

Any thoughts on this pregnancy test (which we erroneously described as a 'condition', apologies for which), asked a reader last time. The test involves putting a needle into the amniotic fluid of the uterus to either determine the sex of the baby or to check for any chromosomal abnormalities, as one of our readers helpfully pointed out. But, as one woman pointed out, what happens if you have a negative result. Would you really be prepared to abort the fetus? And supposing the test was wrong? The woman's daughter was pierced through the leg by the needle during a test, and the scars are evident today, even though the girl was just 18 weeks old at the time.
