Lower doses for strokes

Stroke victims can reduce their dosage of aspirin by nine tenths and still prevent further recurrences.

A study at the University Hospital Utrecht, which examined a total of 300 patients over two and a half years, found that the group given the 30 mg a day suffered a death rate of 14.7 per cent, compared with 15.2 per cent in the group given 283 mg a day, the standard dosage.

There were also slightly fewer major bleeding complications in the group receiving the lower dosage and fewer cases of minor bleeding and stomach problems.
